Gilford's Golden Guardians has helped dozens of children, adults and families achieve greater peace of mind, independence and safety.  Here are just a few of our success stories.

Ella

Ella and Leia make a great team!  Leia has learned to anticipate Ella's needs.  Ella's mom says, "As I was getting Ella dressed in her bathing suit for a swim, Leia put away Ella's PJs without needing to bed asked and brought us Ella's shoes.  She knew that we were leaving and what to do before leaving!  She even "pawed" up on the bed to give the shoes to Ella." Leia listens to Ella even when off leash and stays right with her. Way to work together Ella and Leia!

Colin

Colin is a boy of few words so the fact that his pup Stann takes simple commands from the ipad is extremely helpful. Stann assists Colin in the neighborhood to return to the correct home.  Stann also does a full escort off lead. One night Colin was having a medical emergency, and Stann woke up the family so they could get Colin to the hospital.   He is considered one of our heroes.

In this photo, Colin and Stann demonstrate a perfect escort.

Matt

Matty was known for bolting; he loved to run, and he was fast!  Thankfully, Cookie was faster, and she learned his hiding spots. Matt’s vocabulary has grown from just few words to several words. His speech and language therapists are convinced that Cookie was the catalyst to his vocabulary. Matty was running toward the river one afternoon, and guess who interrupted his bolting and kept him from going in… yes, Cookie! Despite having experience with water, Matt is a non-swimmer.  Cookie assessed the situation and pinned Matty until help arrived. Now that’s thinking on your feet Cookie!  We salute you.

Chloe

When Chloe came to Gilford's Golden Guardians, she had just been hospitalized.  Her safety was of the utmost importance to her doting mom. Her mom asked me, "Can you help her stay safe?"  I simply replied, "I will try."  We started with our intensive bonding program to teach Chloe to be a safe handler. In the meantime, the pup learned skills such as accompanying her into the community and calming her when she is anxious. With Sweetheart's assistance, Chloe has not been re-hospitalized, and she has not put herself in harm’s way. Sweetheart is there to calm, soothe and love Chloe as well as to locate her on demand.
